Under Federal Investigation

by Kate Ward

C'mon, you didn't think Teresa and Joe Giudice would hog all of the illegal fun, did you? New Jersey's other maligned reality TV star, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, is under federal investigation, according to The Hollywood Reporter. So what, exactly, is the situation? The U.S. Attorney's Office is investigating several of the short-lived celebrity's businesses, having issued a subpoena for his records.

I know what you're thinking: The Situation has a business that extends beyond all that business in his midsection? The reality TV star actually has his own production and management company, MPS Entertainment, and also a clothing line, which offers others t-shirts complete with his own catchphrases. (And, being that it's officially gift-giving season — aka t-shirt time — you can find The Situation's line here and give it to that friend who just time-traveled into your life from 2009.)

But how much trouble is The Situation really in? The charges certainly sound serious — but the source doesn't. The Hollywood Reporter found out about the reality star's brush with the law from a press release from his publicist:

He is cooperating with the investigation and is providing the requested records. Although the nature and the scope of the investigation is not clear at this time, Sorrentino fully expects that when all the facts are revealed, no further action will be taken.

Mind you, since the U.S. Attorney's Office does not release news of its investigations, a public statement is hardly an attempt for The Situation to save face. Unless he's attempting to save his face from staying off of television forever. After all, what's better for a has-been than a public scandal or two? Should The Situation convince Vinny Guadagnino to indeed pursue law school, we have a My Cousin Vinny: The TV Show pitch on our hands, people.
