Kanye's Newest Collaboration Is Genius

by Maggie Malach

Get ready for this, music fans: A new Kanye West tune is coming very soon, and it might be an epic collaboration. That's right — it's been confirmed in Esquire that West is partnering with none other than James Blake! Although the rapper claims he's "boring" now, I couldn't be more excited for this latest venture. The first information about the potential song came out in Nov. 2014, when Blake told the Miami New Times, "In terms of the actual collaboration for this record, it looks like we should be able to get something done. I know that there’s a specific song I would like him to be on, and if he can do that by the time my record comes out, that would be fantastic."

The latest update comes in the form of an Esquire interview, as seen in a post on Reddit. In the interview, Blake addresses the possibility of having West (along with Bon Iver!) on his new album, saying, "I can confirm that they’re on it. Kanye — I’m with him today. We’d already started on something ... today we should nail something down. If it doesn’t end up on the album you know it hasn’t worked."

Part of the reason this sounds so amazing is because West has made unconventional collaborations a specialty. Teaming up with Blake would only help bring out the best in both singers. If that doesn't get you stoked, here are seven other amazing collaborations from the rapper.

1. "Lost In The World” — Kanye West Feat. Bon Iver

The hushed sounds of Bon Iver blended with the confidence of West? It's an unlikely pairing, but so amazing. This is the perfect example of how both musicians brought out a new side in the other.

2. "Only One" — Kanye West Feat. Paul McCartney

West showed off his sensitive, nurturing side in this surprise track. Equally surprising? It was his first (but not last) collaboration with Paul McCartney.

3. "Wolves" — Kanye West Feat. Sia and Vic Mensa

Sia's cinematic vocals combined with West's intensity makes for one epic partnership.

4. "Number One" — John Legend Feat. Kanye West

Years before John Legend scooped up an Oscar, he hit the studio with West for the upbeat "Number One."

5. "Gold Digger" — Kanye West Feat. Jamie Foxx

One of West's most commercial songs to date featured Jamie Foxx performing an interpolation of Ray Charles' "I Got a Woman." Talk about utilizing star-power!

6. "American Boy" — Estelle Feat. Kanye West

This collaboration put British singer Estelle on the map, so it was definitely unexpected in that respect. However, West has an eye for talent, so in that regard this partnership is for the course.

7. "Ego" (Remix) — Beyonce Feat. Kanye West

Okay, so maybe Beyonce isn't the most adventurous choice for West, but the rapper spoofing his reputation in an innuendo metaphor? That's just perfection.

Collaborating is clearly nothing new for West, but with Blake on board, this latest partnership should be one of his all-time best.
