This Eyeliner Trick Is The New Cat Eye

The cat eyeliner will always be a classic makeup look, but what about when you want something more subtle? Cue the kitten eye — a softer, toned-down version of the cat eye.

Selena Gomez's "Good for You" music video shed light on the wonders of a barely there cat eye. With a smoky eye, she showed off a smudged, small flick – a barely there cat eye, really. Want to try this out for yourself? In a video for InStyle, celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin discusses how you can get the kitten eye look.

She first makes a tiny flick in the corner, and then proceeds by making a very thin line along the lash line and "burying the color in the lash line." Essentially, you do the eyeliner in "small little increments instead of one big stroke" like you would with a normal cat eye. I would even go as far as to say smudging the dried eyeliner a bit with grey eyeshadow would solidify the "Good for You" look completely.

And this isn't the only time the actress has shown off a kitten eye. Gomez is into very minimalistic, natural makeup for her everyday routine, as she told Into the Gloss, and often times that includes this undefined kitten eye. If you're an avid follower of hers on Instagram, you'll know that this is true.

Fumbling to get an accurate cat eye is hard, so why not try something more achievable? You'll need the same tools (a liquid eyeliner pen, preferably), but it'll take half the time as a normal cat eye because it doesn't need to be so precise.
