March marks the one year anniversary of the UK coronavirus outbreak. As people remember the last year in different ways a new picture of Kate Middleton has been released. The image is. part of a book of portraits that Kate, Duchess of Cambridge hopes will be a “lasting record of what we were all experiencing.” Middleton has worked with the National Portrait Gallery on the project, titled Hold Still. Her photo was taken by her go-to photographer Matt Porteous, according to Harper’s Bazaar and will be one of 100 pictures in Hold Still.

Per the Independent, Hold Still was commissioned in 2020 and the National Portrait Gallery has received over 31,000 images of people around the UK. The gallery’s director Nicholas Cullinan will judge which pictures makes the book, alongside the Duchess of Cambridge. In Middleton’s candid shot she can be seen standing in a field holding a camera. Marie Claire pointed out that her cosy red jumper may look familiar as it’s the one she wore in the 2020 Cambridge family Christmas card.

“When we look back at the COVID-19 pandemic in decades to come, we will think of the challenges we all faced – the loved ones we lost, the extended isolation from our families and friends and the strain placed on our key workers,” Middleton wrote on Twitter, "But we will also remember the positives: the incredible acts of kindness, the helpers and heroes who emerged from all walks of life, and how together we adapted to a new normal. Through Hold Still, I wanted to use the power of photography to create a lasting record of what we were all experiencing – to capture individuals’ stories and document significant moments for families and communities as we lived through the pandemic.”

Alongside the 100 images, will be stories about the people in them and the year they’ve had. Per Harper’s Bazaar, Hold Still ties in with a community project run by the National Portrait Gallery in Oct. 2020 where images were shared on Billboards around the UK. The collection will be released on May 7 and you can pre-order it on the National Portrait Gallery website. 50% of the proceeds will go towards supporting the mental health charity, Mind who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to highlight the impact it’s had on people’s wellbeing.
