Drop Everything, 'Charmed' Is Getting A Reboot

by Amy Mackelden

Fans of Charmed should prepare themselves, because The CW is rebooting the series, and no, this is not a drill. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Charmed reboot will be a "reimagining" of the original show, and although it'll retain some sort of connection to its predecessor, there's no news as yet how that will transpire. One major change taking place is that the Charmed reboot will be set in 1976, so expect vintage costumes and retro hairstyles galore. Your 2017 Halloween costumes are pretty much decided. Bustle has reached out to The CW for comment, but has yet to receive a response.

Jane the Virgin showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman is on board, as are writers Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin, who created the story for the reboot. Basically, it's time to get majorly excited, as The CW has hired a team of super feminist writers to reboot a show about three sisters casting powerful magic together. All of your witchy dreams are about to come true.

Charmed originally ran for eight seasons between 1998 to 2006, and had an extremely dedicated fanbase. One of the reasons for that was the show's focus on its three female leads, The Charmed Ones, good witches who protected people from evil. The sisters each possessed different magical powers, and tried to keep their abilities under wraps while living their everyday lives in San Francisco. Needless to say, this wasn't always an easy task, but it made Charmed such a fun, though often devastating, show to watch.

While a reboot of any show is going to face challenges, Charmed has such a great premise, so it's probably safe to be hopeful that the new version will be (almost) as good as the original. As a feminist series, dedicated to telling women's stories and unafraid to show its female characters as strong and powerful, Charmed has stood the test of time. In fact, the series is probably getting rebooted precisely because it's super feminist and empowering, and that's exactly what the world needs more of right now.

While the project is only in development, if everything goes to plan, we might be seeing Charmed on our screens in 2017. If anyone knows any spells that can make that happen, that would be great.
