Chrissy Metz's latest photoshoot is an ode to the pinup girls of days past. The This Is Us star joined forces with Harper's Bazaar for a classic pinup swimsuit shoot, hearkening back to iconic looks from swimsuit pinup legends like Jayne Mansfield and Virginia Bell. Metz has serious skills in front of the camera, so it's no surprise that her Harper's shoot is glitzy goodness. For Metz, it's also empowering.

"When I first heard Harper's Bazaar wanted me to be sexy," she told Harper's, "I was like, 'Who, me?' I knew y'all were edgy but this is incredible — it's validation."

She added that she can "get into this now because I finally have the confidence," but that she "used to be Kate." Kate, Metz's character on This Is Us, struggles with her self-worth and body positivity; much of her storyline is concerned with whether or not she'll move forward with gastric bypass surgery. Bustle reached out to Metz for comment on her recent Harper's spread, but has not heard back at this time.

And Metz's hard-earned confidence, she told Harper's, isn't easily shattered. "Like, if I ever end up on the worst-dressed list, it's not going to make me fall apart," she said. "I want to look great and feel good and be comfortable, but at the same time, none of this really matters. This is the fun stuff."

Metz definitely looks both excellent and comfortable in her shoot — she rocks cat-eye eyeliner and matching cat-eye sunglasses, shows off a polka-dot dress reminiscent of Bettie Page, and is seriously gorgeous in a Trashy corset, paired with Charlie Lapson jewelry.

Metz's shoot embodies a trifecta of industries who are sorely lacking when it comes to giving plus size folks opportunities, but are continuing to grow more inclusive every day: film, fashion, and beauty. Though more brands are giving plus size folks their due, plus size people struggle to get roles like Metz's — and even more than that, struggle to get roles that aren't about being plus size. Metz's latest shoot — along with actor Gabourey Sidibe's recent Nylon spread is a reminder that plus size people are here to stay.
