There's a lot out there about who you should date based on your sign, but finding friends you're compatible with is just as important. And for the same reasons that certain signs tend to work out as couples, astrology can also dictate who to be friends with based on your sign. Our friends often last longer than our relationships (even the ones with our astrological matches), and most of us have more friends than partners, so it's worth it to learn which signs we should be befriending.
As an astrologer and psychic, the star of TLC's Psychic Matchmaker, and the author of Get Your Head Out of Your App: A Psychic's Guide to Attracting and Keeping True Love, Deborah Graham sets up couples in part based on their signs. She tells Bustle that like every person, every sign has an energy that connects to other energies on a psychic level. The energetic qualities you'll look for in a friend, though, are a little different from what you'd look for in a partner. What might lead to passion in a romantic partnership, for example, could lead to conflict in a friendship.
So, forget what you know about romantic astrological compatibility. According to Graham, when it comes to choosing friends, the following matches are made in heaven (or, more accurately, in the stars).
Capricorn (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19) & Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Capricorns and cancers are both conflict-avoidant, so neither will force the other into confrontations they're not comfortable with. And since Cancers are slow to trust, a Capricorn's carefulness, intelligence, and selflessness will help bring them out of their shell.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18) & Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21)
Sagittariuses can be super intense and require lots of attention, while Aquariuses are more low-key and will give their friends the space and support to voice all their ideas.
Pisces (Feb. 19 - March 20) & Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Pisces are vulnerable to being taken advantage of, but the fiercely loyal Taurus will never do this and will always defend Pisces against those who do. Taurus and Pisces can also keep up with each other's fierce intellect with witty banter.
Aries (March 21 - April 19) & Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Aries can get headstrong and needs a friend who will challenge them without being too oppositional. Gemini is also stubborn but more flexible than Aries, which helps both learn from each other and evolve in their opinions. Both Aries and Gemini can get their heads stuck in the clouds, but they can also ground each other.
Leo (July 23 - Aug. 22) & Virgo (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22)
Both Virgo and Leo are extremely charismatic and the life of the party, but they tend to use this trait for different purposes. While Leos take command of groups, Virgos stir up support for social causes and work to make the world a better place. When they come together, they can both teach each other new ways to use their gifts.
Libra (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22) & Scorpio (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21)
Scorpios can have a temper, but Libras have a way of keeping their friends' anger at bay. Libras are amused by Scorpios' bold personalities, while Libras' quieter demeanors help calm Scorpios.
Anyone can be friends with any sign, of course, but if you have a friend whose sign matches yours, they're one to hang onto.
