Pride Month is finally here, and you know what that means: all rainbow everything. This year, there are plenty of ways to make a rainbow Facebook profile picture, including through the site itself. Even if you're so technologically-challenged it's a miracle you even have a Facebook, adding a dash of color to your profile is ridiculously easy — the hardest part is deciding which method you want to try out.
The rainbow profile picture is nothing new. In 2015, it was everywhere after the Supreme Court struck down same-sex marriage bans, and last summer, many users added rainbow filters to support the LGBTQ community after the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. In early June, Facebook announced that it is celebrating Pride Month in several new ways: Pride-themed masks and frames on Messenger, a temporary rainbow flag reaction button, and of course, a rainbow frame for your profile picture.
However, that's far from the only way to turn your profile page into a one-stop celebration of all things LGBTQ. Tragically, there's no way to add virtual glitter or force viewers to listen to Tegan and Sara upon visitng your profile (yet), but rainbows are all over the place. Here's your guide to celebrating Pride Month on Facebook in 2017.
Use The Official Frame
By far, the simplest way to add a rainbow to your profile is through Facebook itself. Head over to facebook.com/celebratepride, which automatically pulls up your current picture. (If you want to use a different one, there's an option to do so in the top right corner.) Once you've adjusted it to your liking, hit "use as profile picture," and you're done.
Search For Different Frames
If you're not a huge fan of Facebook's official filter, there are all kinds of frames to support your favorite causes or events throughout the year. To add one celebrating Pride, visit facebook.com/profilepicframes and search for "pride." This pulls up dozens of LGBTQ frames to add to your profile. Don't forget to select how long you want your rainbow-clad picture to last before hitting the button.
Use Rainbow Filter
For a different look, use the Rainbow Filter website (rainbowfilter.io), which overlays the entire photo with a rainbow. If you don't want to log in through Facebook, you'll have to upload your profile picture and download the filtered result. Once that's done, upload your newly colorful photo to Facebook.
Set A Temporary Profile Picture
If you use a website like Rainbow Filter that requires you to upload a new photo, here's a tip. If the feature is available in your location, set a temporary profile picture, so you don't have to worry about taking the rainbow one down and re-uploading your old one later.
This works in the same way as adding any new profile picture, but after you've uploaded the photo, click the "make temporary" button. Choose the length of time you want it to stay up, hit "save," and voila! Your lovely new picture will last exactly as long as you want. Happy Pride!
