Linkin Park Singer Chester Bennington Has Reportedly Died

According to a report from TMZ, Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has reportedly died after committing suicide. He was 41 years old. Bustle reached out to a rep for the band and to the LAPD, but did not receive a response at the time of publication.

UPDATE: Linkin Park member Mike Shinoda confirmed Bennington's death on Twitter. Warner Bros. Records CEO and Chairman, Cameron Strang, released the following statement to Bustle:

“Chester Bennington was an artist of extraordinary talent and charisma, and a human being with a huge heart and a caring soul. Our thoughts and prayers are with his beautiful family, his band-mates and his many friends. All of us at WBR join with millions of grieving fans around the world in saying: we love you Chester and you will be forever missed.”

EARLIER: TMZ reports that according to law enforcement sources, Bennington hung himself at a private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles County. His body was reportedly discovered on the morning of Thursday, July 20.

Linkin Park came to prominence in 2000 with their first album, Hybrid Theory. The band's mix of alternative rock and rap verses set them apart when it came to other mainstream music at the time. The band is well known for their singles "Crawling," "In the End," and "Breaking the Habit," and has released seven albums in total. Their latest, One More Light, was released this year. The band's tour in support of the album was set to begin on July 27 — a week from now.

Bennington leaves behind six children from two marriages, including with his current wife, Talinda Bently.
