Ella Yelich-O’Connor has yet another thing to add to her towering stack of accomplishments. Billboard has revealed that Lorde’s album Melodrama debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard 200. As if her sophomore effort entering the chart at the top spot wasn’t already a big deal, the big deal keeps on growing: Melodrama is her first record to hit no. 1 on the US chart. On Monday, Lorde hopped on Twitter to say a few things about this milestone and the inspired road she traveled to get here.

“You guys, today we have the number one album in America,” tweeted the force of pop nature. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you.” She added, “Royals was, to quote David Chase, 'a moonshot, a dreadnought.' there were no such guarantees with Melodrama—that's why this means so much ... when I was a kid I thought big records had to be made a certain way—to be sterile & calculated in craft; that something had to be sacrificed … I have had the divine thrill of disproving that firsthand, twice over.”

Boom, there goes the “Homemade Dynamite.” Lorde has remained true to Lorde, and the pop masterpiece that is Melodrama is the latest result. Her creativity and unique vision are palpable throughout the record; there isn’t anything remotely sterile or generic about devastatingly gripping tracks like “Writer In the Dark,” “Hard Feelings/Loveless,” or “The Louvre.” The onion ring super fan created music with Jack Antonoff "in rooms alone, telling secrets and uncovering truths" that, as she put it, “15yo me would have been so f*cking proud” of. Oh, and it also happens to be music that absolutely crushes. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Lorde.

“SO WHAT I'N TRYNA SAY IS LET'S F*CKIN GEEEET IIIIIIT MORE JOY IN ALL OUR FUTURES MELODRAMA FOREVER," Lorde concluded. More joy plus Melodrama forever sounds like a fantastic plan.
