Shia LaBeouf Apologizes Following His Arrest

Last week, shocking news broke that Shia LaBeouf had been arrested in Georgia on July 8 for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, and now, the 31-year-old actor is coming forward to explain his behavior. In a statement made on Twitter Wednesday night, LaBeouf apologized for the actions that led to his arrest and he's taking full responsibility for what happened that night.

According to the Chatham County Sheriff's Office, LaBeouf was taken into the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and booked on an obstruction charge. Police claimed to the Associated Press that when someone turned him down when he asked for a cigarette, he used "profanities and vulgar language in front of the women and children present," later allegedly refusing to leave and allegedly becoming aggressive toward a police officer before fleeing to a nearby hotel. Earlier this week, TMZ released video footage of LaBeouf's arrest, where he can be heard ranting about his rights as an American and saying that "a black man arrested me for being white."

Now, in his apology, LaBeouf has admitted that he is "deeply ashamed" of what he's done and revealed that although he's been struggling with addiction, he's working toward achieving sobriety.

Although LaBeouf has opened up about his alcohol addiction before, he's hoping that this incident is rock bottom for him as he begins to work toward a healthier life.

The response to LaBeouf's apology on Twitter has been largely positive, though some of his followers are upset that he didn't specifically mention the racial remarks he made.

LaBeouf is currently in Savannah while filming a movie called The Peanut Butter Falcon with Dakota Johnson. Following his arrest, he was released on a $7,000 bond, according to the AP.
