Considering that social media is such an integral part of our daily lives, it only makes sense that in the last decade, the presidents of the United States have taken advantage of platforms where they can directly speak to the people. However, when the president decides to use his platform to attack, put down, and complain, it becomes more of a distraction than a helpful tool. Unfortunately, this is the case with President Donald Trump's Twitter usage, and CNN's Anderson Cooper has had enough with the president's erratic Tweeting and admitted that he muted Trump on Twitter.

As Cooper explained to Stephen Colbert on The Late Show on Monday, Trump's Twitter tirades have become too much for him to deal with, and so he did something about it. But he didn't want to go so far as to delete the president, since he would be able to see that. Cooper said,

I just don’t want to have that drama in my life. … I have great respect for the president — I just don’t need to follow him on Twitter. Listen, I have friends who have mania, I don’t want to be around them all the time.

Cooper also said that he has people informing him about what the president is saying on the platform, but the bottom line is that Trump's twitter can be a distraction from the real issues. Since his inauguration alone, Trump has called the media the enemy of the American people, complained about a judge for his decision about his travel ban, accused former President Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower, and much more. He tends to make rash judgements and jumps to conclusions, which isn't productive for anyone to focus on.

If you'd like to mute Trump on your Twitter feed without deleting him, it's a simple process. First, go to his page. Then, click on the settings gear and select "Mute @realDonaldTrump" from the list. You can also mute an account directly from an individual tweet by tapping on the down arrow in the top right corner of the tweet then selecting "Mute @realDonaldTrump."

It's very tempting to become stuck in a cycle of reading Trump's tweets and getting angry each time he says something ridiculous or inappropriate. But it's really not worth the headache. There are real actions Trump and his administration are taking that includes limiting reproductive freedom, freezing travel for immigrants and refugees, allowing construction of pipelines to continue, and so much more.

These are the issues that we need to put our energy toward fighting, not getting into a Twitter war with the president. Yes, it's infuriating, but it's also ultimately not productive for anyone trying to keep the Trump administration in check.
