Bustle's Editors On Net Neutrality + Sandy Hook

‌Hi, friends! How's this week treating you so far? I, personally, am pretty pumped for the weekend (and for the upcoming holiday festivities!). Today has been a little somber, however. The big news is that the FCC has repealed net neutrality rules, which is probably going to have an impact on your life and how you use the internet (more on that below). It's also been exactly 5 years since the devastating Sandy Hook shooting. That, and more ahead — here's what Bustle's editors are talking about on Dec. 14:

Sandy Hook + Gun Control

Dec. 14 marks the fifth year anniversary of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, where 20 children and six teachers were killed by a gunman. Unfortunately, little has changed on the federal level regarding gun laws, and they've been several mass shootings that have taken place since 2012 (most notably, the shooting in Las Vegas where 59 people were killed).

How You Can Help: There are a bunch of organizations working hard towards implementing gun control that you can volunteer for or donate to.

Net Neutrality + RIP The Internet

It's a sad day for the internet. Today the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted 3-2 to repeal net neutrality rules. This vote went along party lines, with three Republican committee members voting to end the rules, while two female Democrats voted the other way. Net neutrality rules prevent internet providers from charging consumers more to access certain websites, or from slowing internet speeds down. The repeal of these rules will enable companies like Verizon and Comcast to create a more stratified system that could charge users more for access to social media & streaming services.

WTF: According to reports in the The Buffalo News, someone has been running around pooping on lawns in this one New York town. Eww!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi + Premiere

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres tonight in theaters around the country and fans are FREAKING OUT. If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, we've got the scoop on the best way to watch the film. Also, did you know that two members of the British Royal family *might* have cameos? Keep your eyes peeled for that!

If you're on the fence about seeing the latest installment in the franchise, this review on the film – particularly on how The Last Jedi treats women as equals – might persuade you.

Girl Power: Speaking of women in movies, actresses are planning on wearing black to the 2018 Golden Globes red carpet, in an effort to protest sexual harassment in Hollywood.

Selena Gomez + Taylor Swift

In case you missed it, yesterday was Taylor Swift's 28th birthday. To celebrate, Selena Gomez shared the sweetest video on Instagram of the two of them singing together. Her Instagram caption was honestly even cuter. Gomez wrote, "I wish some knew how big your heart actually is... it’s fierce, bold and freaking wild with light." We hope T. Swift had a lovely time celebrating last night.

OMG: I love a good purse. They can be stylish, super practical, and prevent me from losing all my things. But would I spend $5,965 on a purse that looks like french fries?! Debatable.

What to Watch: It's never too early to watch these truly awesome Christmas movies.
