Bustle's Editors On Obamacare + Joe Biden

by Rachel Simon

How's everyone doing? After a couple days filled with truly hard-to-believe news that changed things up in major ways (I mean, golden showers are now in your 80-year-old grandma's vocabulary), Thursday was relatively slow, all things considered. Still, it is 2017, and with only eight days to go before the presidential inauguration, even a slow day is still one with plenty of important news and events.

So, without further ado, here's a recap of what Bustle's editors were talking about today, from that Senate vote on Obamacare to Khloe Kardashian's Revenge Body.

Obamacare + That Senate Vote

The first steps in Donald Trump's plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act have officially been taken. Early Thursday morning, the Senate voted on a budget resolution that could be used to repeal portions of the ACA, a move that, while not final (it has to go to the House on Friday), is still crushing to supporters of the Act, many of whom are sharing their stories on how Obamacare has changed their lives for the better.

How To Help: If you're one of the countless people troubled by the idea that Obamacare could be repealed, call your representative and make your opinions known. The ACA can be saved, so do your part to make that happen.

Michelle Obama + Saying Goodbye

For so many people, the idea that Obama will no longer be our president in just eight days is heartbreaking — and realizing that Michelle Obama, too, will be leaving office is equally rough. On Wednesday night, the First Lady went on The Tonight Show to talk about everything from her tears during the president's final speech to those #Michelle2020 rumors. And, yes, she dougied.

Cry Moment: On Thursday, President Obama surprised his VP/BFF Joe Biden with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor. Watch the video, but prepare to cry harder than Joe when he gets the medal.

American Horror Story + More Drama

Big news, TV fans. During the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Thursday, it was announced that American Horror Story has been renewed for two (!) new seasons. Not every beloved series received as good an update, though; it was also revealed at the TCAs that Season 2 of Atlanta is delayed until 2018, due to star Donald Glover being, you know, the biggest thing in Hollywood right now. Sigh.

Game Break: With Oscar nominations less than two weeks away and the actual show coming up in February, take Bustle's ultimate Oscar trivia quiz to test your knowledge on all things Academy Awards.

Revenge Body + What It Actually Means

If you're a Kardashian fan, you've probably heard about Khloe's new show, Revenge Body, all about losing weight and working out post-breakup. The show doesn't have the best, most body-positive message — which is why Bustle's Associate Fashion & Beauty editor Amanda Richards decided to write her own rules for what getting a "revenge body" entails. Sample line: "I recommend supplementing your exercises with a balanced diet of swallowing a healthy amount of other people's bullsh*t and moving on with your day." Amen.

From The Editor: "I watched the first episode of Revenge Body and all I could think to myself was how sad it was, the idea that you should have to change yourself and your physicality to 'show' someone else," explains Richards. "I wanted to write about how to really take revenge: By living your best life and giving absolutely no f**ks." Hell, yes.

Today's WTF Moment: So I'm Unemployed But He's The F***ing President? The Billy Bush Story — the name of one of the many fake "Trump era" books one comedian is reading on the subway. These titles are brilliant, you guys.

What to Watch: Night owls, get ready: Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events premieres at 3 a.m. tonight. If you need a recap before diving into the series, take Bustle's ASOUE trivia quiz to catch up on all things Baudelaire.
