Like many women, I've tried (often in vain) to explain to people why using the word "p*ssy" as a synonym for weak is the worst comparison ever. Meanwhile, I've been told to "man up" or "grow a pair" when I'm stuck in a rough patch because apparently, women should try to act more like a men when the going gets tough. But it's not simply the phrasing that's an issue — it's that these phrases are inherently misogynistic and they contribute to the overall false ideology that women are the weaker gender. That's why the Trevor Noah Netflix special jokes about vaginas are so important — although he's hardly a pioneer when it comes to the topic, the comedian deserves credit for using his platform to absolutely destroy the myth that vaginas are weak.

Noah starts by describing a night when he was recovering from an illness and felt completely exhausted and weak after completing work. When he turned down a friend's suggestion to grab a drink, the aforementioned friend told him not to be a p*ssy. "And that's where he lost me," Noah says. "Guys do it all the time. Hit you with the phrase 'don't be a p*ssy... don't be a p*ssy because the p*ssy is weak.'"

Then, Noah makes a point that is perhaps more relevant now than ever:

"In my personal experience, I have found the pussy to be one of the strongest things I have ever come across in my life. Don't be a p*ssy? Have you ever come across a p*ssy? Your realize the vagina can start revolutions and end wars."

According to The Decider, Noah filmed his Netflix special one week before the presidential election — and, although women had already begun to take back the word "p*ssy" after the release of the Access Hollywood tapes, the number of women and men who participated in Women's Marches all across the globe on Jan. 21 confirms that, yes, the vagina can start a revolution.

Noah goes on to point out that it's not just women who are strong as hell — the vagina itself is virtually indestructible. "Do you understand how strong it is? There's a reason men have sought to oppress it for so long," he says. "The vagina is frighteningly powerful. You realize human beings come out of the vagina. Human beings come out and it still continues to work as intended." His use of the word oppression is also noteworthy — it's no secret that many men seek to oppress women, and he offers a pretty good suggestion as to why: A woman's strength, both physically and mentally, is far-too-often perceived as a threat.

In conclusion, Noah suggests that the phrase should really be "don't be a penis" because he thinks "p*ssy" is a compliment. "You sit on a penis wrong and it breaks," he observes. Although women have been arguing this point for years, it's still worth giving a hat tip to anyone who uses their platform to call out the hypocrisy of these phrases. Male feminists have always been invaluable, but many men shy away from the label — so it's awesome to see Noah use his Netflix special to convey a feminist message.
