It seems revivals are becoming an important part of Peak TV, and the Twin Peaks revival is no exception. Fans of the original, groundbreaking series have been waiting for this moment since Showtime announced it was bringing it back. With the revival set to premiere May 21, viewers may be wondering which original characters are returning to Twin Peaks.

Twin Peaks: The Return joins other TV revivals over the past few years such as Gilmore Girls, Fuller House, and The X-Files. Revivals offer welcome nostalgia, but also a chance for creators and actors to explore their characters and settings against different time periods as both the show and its audience have grown up and moved on.

With so many plotlines left unresolved, it seems the delightful weirdness that made Twin Peaks famous will be alive and well for its revival. Speculation for the show is at its height as fans are given teasers, but few answers. What has become of that little town in Washington? What has changed in 25 years?

Of course, no revival would be complete without the core cast that made the show famous. With a cast list of 217 actors, there are too many returning stars to name, but here are a few favorites who will be coming back to Twin Peaks, Washington:

Kyle MacLachlan As Dale Cooper

While MacLachlan is a household name from roles on Desperate Housewives and Sex and the City, he was originally known primarily for his role as FBI Agent Cooper.

Fans don't need to be concerned that MacLachlan's other work will take priority over his duties in Twin Peaks. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, MacLachlan said, "I love Agent Cooper. It was my first television experience, and you don’t really know what you have until it’s gone, or until you’ve experienced more of life."

Catherine E. Coulson As The Log Lady

Twin Peaks fans were shocked and devastated when their beloved Log Lady died in 2015 at the age of 71.

But as the revival draws near, it appears that the Log Lady won't let fans down. According to The Telegraph, sources say that Coulson shot some revival scenes before her death.

David Lynch As Gordon Cole

Aside from playing Gordon Cole, David Lynch and co-writer Mark Frost have written all 18 revival episodes and Lynch has directed them all.

It's been a long time since both writers have been to Twin Peaks, but David Lynch felt at ease with the show's return. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Lynch said, "[Co-creator Mark Frost and I] both know the world, so it's sort of like going back to a place where you grew up. You know your way around even though things are a little different. Memories come back and ideas come like that."

David Duchovny As Denise Bryson

While Duchovny is known more for his role as FBI agent Fox Mulder, he first surprised audiences as DEA agent Denise Bryson.

As Denise, Duchovny was confident and no nonsense, which made his character a welcome addition to the Twin Peaks family. Not much has been revealed about Denise in the revival, but based on her character from the original series, it is safe to say that fans won't be disappointed.

Sherilyn Fenn As Audrey Horne

In an interview with The Washington Times, on her return to Twin Peaks, Sherilyn Fenn said, "I think [the reboot] will probably, hopefully, be some of his best work. The beauty of age is we grow, we learn. We have more wisdom. And as much as the youth-glorifying Hollywood would like us to believe, it’s nothing. They’re wrong."

Not much as been said about Fenn's reprisal as Audrey Horne, but after 25 years, Audrey will be all grown up and probably still causing trouble.

Mädchen Amick & Peggy Lipton

The news of Twin Peaks: The Return was so unbelievable that even Amick, who plays Shelly Johnson, couldn't believe it. In an interview for USA Today, she described what happened when she emailed Lynch for confirmation. "I asked, 'Is this a hoax?' And he said, 'Nope. I'll see you in the beautiful world of Twin Peaks very soon.' It gave me shivers."

It has been quite some time, but Amick and Peggy Lipton, who plays Norma, had no trouble feeling at home back into her green uniform. In an interview with IndieWire, Lipton said, "Some things have changed, but a lot hasn’t changed. A lot is still steady the way it was."

Laura Palmer?

Call it fate or good writing (or one last gift from the Log Lady), but the most iconic moment of Twin Peaks is the deceased Laura Palmer telling Agent Cooper, "I'll see you in 25 years." And now, 25 years to the date, that promise has been fulfilled.

In a different interview with IndieWire, David Lynch shared that Twin Peaks: The Return has a connection to the show and to the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Lynch said, "The core of it is Agent Cooper’s odyssey back to Twin Peaks." As a major player within the Twin Peaks mythos, Sheryl Lee will be returning as the unfortunate murder victim Laura Palmer.

However, without a trailer or any substantial information to reveal the intentions of the Twin Peaks revival, fans will have to wait patiently for all to be revealed.
