This Glow In The Dark Hair Dye Will Be Your New Drugstore Buy

by James Hale

Thanks to Instagram, there's no shortage of inspiration for your next colorful hair dye job. But while plenty of dyed looks on Instagram are DIY, many more are stylists showing off their skills — and sometimes, affording a stylist just isn't feasible. That's why this glow-in-the-dark-dye will be your new favorite drugstore buy.

Dye company Pixie Lott Paint, which is known for producing temporary wash-out dyes, recently released two glow-in-the-dark neon shades: Flourescent Pink and Flourescent Blue. 2017 has provided plenty of colorful hair trends, but glow-in-the-dark is a new one, and while some at-home permanent or semi-permanent drugstore dyes can cause significant damage to your locks when you try to nail that perfect Instagram look, Pixie Lott's colors are completely temporary. The company says they wash out with two to 10 washes, and each box comes with fade out shampoo to help ease the transition from rave-ready back to day job usual.

On top of easy fade out, the dye is easy to apply, and even better, it can be applied to hair that's already been colored. If you're looking to break into DIY dyeing, this is a good brand — and a pair of eye-catching colors — to start with.

Per the brand's instructions, these neon paints should be applied with gloves, to shampooed, towel-dried hair. Start at the roots, make sure the dye covers your hair evenly, and leave it in for up to 45 minutes. Then rinse it in warm water and do not shampoo it right away. Pretty easy, and thanks to the dye's temporary nature, if you mess up you can scrub it out, which is truly a luxury. Especially for certain people — not naming names, but it starts with M and ends with E — who have trouble keeping dye on their hair and off their skin.

Remember that like any other store-bought dye, you can't expect salon results from these, but they're certainly beautiful, affordable, and look to be the perfect accessory for someone who's looking for the glamour of a bright color, but not the permanence of a salon dye or the upkeep a permanent DIY job would require.

If these colors and their quick wash-out formula sounds good to you, rest assured Pixie Lott has plenty more colors, too, including four new metallic shades. "Unlike the bold, Technicolor options the line is known for, the four new shades are a bit more subtle," said Teen Vogue. "Available in gray, silver, slate, and black shimmers, they imbue hair with sparkling sheen and shine with the same two-to-10 wash longevity."

You can check out the brand's full lineup on its website.

It's safe to say these dyes are going to feature at plenty of dances, beach parties, and fests as the summer winds down and fall hair trends start to take over.
