Watch The Heartwarming Moment This YouTuber Came Out To His Little Brother

by Lara Rutherford-Morrison

Oliver Potter is a 20-year-old vlogger based in the UK. In a video posted on Tuesday, the YouTuber came out to his 5-year-old brother, and the kid’s sweet response is enough to restore (at least a little of) your faith in humanity. Seriously, this video will make your heart grow three sizes.

Oliver, who goes by “OliverVloggs” on YouTube, sat down with his little brother, Alfie, to talk about love and what it means to be gay. “I don’t really know how to put this. … How do you think about love? Do you think ‘boy,’ ‘girl,’ ‘marriage,’ ‘baby’?” Oliver asks in the video. Alfie’s view on the matter is straightforward: “[I]f you’re a mum and you want to be in love with a dad, you get in love with them.”

Oliver asks, “How would it make you feel if I married a man?” Adorably, Alfie’s face lights up at the prospect. He is EXCITED. “If you marry a man, it’s going to be so cool because I saw in one movie, and in one movie a man was in love with another man and then everyone was saying ‘cool, cool, cool,’” he responds. (This moment perfectly illustrates why it’s so important for different types of people — LGBT people, people of different cultural backgrounds, people with disabilities, and on and on — to be represented on screen.)

Later, Alfie tells his brother, “When you have a baby, you’ll get the ones who got lost.” MY HEART.

In an Instagram post about the video, Oliver wrote, “Alfie taught me something filming this, love really is love. I'm so happy he is being brought up to be a respectful, kind young man and I wouldn't change him for the world.” He added in a YouTube comment, “I was not expecting the mature support from him at all.”

Young Alfie offers some simple words of wisdom: “Love means love. … There’s no room for hate.”
