At this point, the nation is aware President Trump hates CNN. The commander-in-chief calls out "fake news" on a regular basis, and Monday he escalated that rhetoric by saying networks should compete for a fake news trophy — and Twitter had some ideas for who should really take home the prize.

"We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me)," Trump tweeted Monday morning. "They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!"

After calling for the contest, which notably didn't include Fox News, the network most friendly to him, Trump also criticized MSNBC's Morning Joe for airing a pre-taped segment on Black Friday. "The good news is that their ratings are terrible, nobody cares!" the president tweeted.

As tends to happen with Trump's tweets, Twitter users joked about who should really win the fake news trophy — namely, the president himself. They also pointed out that Trump tends to fire off distraction tweets when his legislative plans are failing, or when news about the Russia investigation is about to drop. So, is special counsel Robert Mueller going to indict someone Monday, Twitter wondered?

Let's take a look at some of the best jokes.

Trophies Are For Millennials, Duh

Someone had to make the connection between Trump's proposed trophy and the stereotype that millennials need participation trophies for simply breathing.

Trump Winning His Own "Fake News Trophy"

A major theme in the trophy jokes department was Trump winning his own made-up award, given how many whoppers he tells in speeches and how many false statements he tweets out.

Sherri Shavon tweeted that she constantly has to verify which of Trump's tweets are real. Earlier this month, The Washington Post reported that Trump made 1,628 false or misleading claims during his first 298 days in office.

Remember When Trump Faked His Own Time Cover?

Remember when there was a fake Time magazine cover of Trump hanging in one of his golf clubs? Time actually had to ask the Trump Organization to remove any fake covers it had displayed.

Or When He Falsely Claimed He'd Been Named Time's Person Of The Year?

Just this weekend, Trump claimed that Time asked him for a photoshoot, saying he would probably be named 2017's Person of the Year. The magazine responded by tweeting: "The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6."

An Award As Legit As A Trump University Degree

Danielle Butcher asked if the "fake news trophy" holds as much value as a Trump University degree. As you might recall, the now-defunct school was sued for fraud, and reached a settlement of $25 million in March.

And the trophy goes to ..

Ed Krassenstein flipped the tables, telling Trump his fake award would actually be a badge of honor for CNN.

Phil Elliott thinks there's already plenty of those, though.

Who's Your Favorite President?

Trump's tweets are always full of all caps and interesting word choices, but this one in particular was criticized for pointing out which president he was talking about.

If you have to remind people you're their favorite, it's usually safe to assume you're not.

Is It All Just A Distraction?

The president tends to go off about "fake news" (or Hillary Clinton) when a story unfavorable to him is about to break, leading people to wonder if someone else was about to be indicted in the FBI's Russia investigation.

Nevertheless, Twitter had a good time making fun of the president's early morning tirade about the media. Now to keep an eye out for what's really happening in Washington in case it was all a diversion.
