Bonnie Tyler Will Sing "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" During The Eclipse & You're Welcome

Once upon a time there was light in our lives, but now there's only love in the dark. Bonnie Tyler will perform "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" during the eclipse in August 2017 on board Royal Caribbean's Total Eclipse Cruise. The CEO of Royal Caribbean International stressed "Bonnie Tyler was a natural choice for this once-in-a-lifetime moment," which, well, no kidding. The scientific event itself is a crazy big deal since we haven't experienced an eclipse since before that song came out, way back when in 1979. However, if you want to watch Tyler perform during the eclipse, you may be out of luck. At least for most of the performance.

First of all, you can't fault the Welsh singer for making a few modifications in the name of aligning the heavens with some seriously heavenly music. She told TIME that, since the August 21 eclipse lasts two minutes and 40 seconds, she was forced to cut down her bestselling hit: "It had to be chopped about, because it was so long. I never thought it would be played on the radio, in the beginning." Sadly, it doesn't appear as if the entire performance is going to be filmed. However, though you can't watch the whole thing, Cruise Critic will be filming clips for their social media accounts. And, in addition, an FB Live interview with Tyler will be held on their Facebook page after the concert, so you can at least see all of that.

The best way to witness the entire unique experience would be to snap up tickets for the cruise. And yes, there are still tickets available. The only catch is that they're not exactly cheap, which, given the whole once-in-a-lifetime thing, kind of make sense. Tickets for the Total Eclipse cruise, which sets sail from Orlando on August 20 and heads towards the Caribbean, start at $1,459, which doesn't take into account the additional $111.26 you'll need to shell out for fees, taxes and port expenses. Ouch. That crying sound you hear is probably your wallet.

Still, despite the huge envy that this story might elicit in those whose bank accounts are too empty to afford to witness this event, the announcement is still the gift that keeps on giving to Tyler fans. It reminds us all that if we can't see this in person, we can at the very least reenact the events from the unforgettable 1983 video. Gather your flowing gauzy curtains, your candles, your hairspray, your demonic schoolboys. And prepare for this eclipse with every bit as much OTT drama as the 66-year-old singer would.
