It was announced on Monday that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged and set to wed in the spring. But before the Suits star was in a super high-profile relationship with a literal prince, she was married once before. Meghan Markle's ex-husband is Trevor Engelson, and while the rules on divorcees marrying into the royal family have relaxed, fans of the soon-to-be royal family member might be wondering just who her ex is.

Engelson is a film producer and manager. His credits include the 2010 film Remember Me starring Robert Pattinson, and now he's producing the Heathers TV series reboot, which is set to air in 2018.

Markle and Engelson were together for nine years. They began dating in 2004, got engaged in 2010, and tied the knot in 2011 on a beach in Jamaica in front of a small party of 102 guests, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sounds nice!

They almost made it to a decade together, but alas, the pair quietly divorced in 2013. A source told the Daily Mail at the time of the split that it was long distance that did their relationship in: "It put a strain on the relationship. Trevor was in LA making movies, Meghan was in another country five hours’ flight away and it simply took its toll."

Even though Engelson and Markle have been divorced for four years now, it surely must be difficult to get over the fact that your ex-wife traded up for an actual prince. But apparently, Engelson is making a TV show about it. Deadline reported in September that Engelson was producing a comedy pilot for FOX along with Modern Family executive producer Danny Zuker, Jake Kasdan from New Girl, and Dan Farah from The Shannara Chronicles. Here's the premise:

Divorce is hard. Sharing custody is harder. Sharing custody with the British Royal family when your wife marries a prince, in the unforgiving spotlight of London’s tabloid media, is next level.

Well, isn't that something. That said, Engelson and Markle have zero children together, so this isn't altogether based in reality. As Deadline reports, the concept originated when Engelson and Farah talked about what it would be like if the ex-couple had had children and he had to share custody with the royal family. It does sound like it'd be a tricky situation, and one that they are both probably glad they don't actually have to deal with.

No word on what the royal family will have to say about this, or whether they will put out a statement at all, but how amazing would it be if Prince Harry himself ordered a formal royal statement? He did, after all, do so in November 2016 when he issued a statement through Kensington Palace addressing the fact that the press was hounding and harassing Markle. "Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle's safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her," the statement read. "It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm."

Seeing as Prince Harry and Markle are now engaged to be married, the potential show sounds like it will mirror real life even more. Markle and Prince Harry are set to wed in the spring, according to the official statement from Clarence House. The pilot of Engleson's hasn't yet been picked up for series, but if it does, maybe it should premiere around the same time to get in on the royal fever that will surely be happening. There's probably two people you can count on to not watch, though.
