Meet Miss France 2016

The numbers are dwindling on the 2017 Miss Universe pageant, and, as I do when watching a show like The Bachelor, I am infinitely more interested in the women on the show when there are only a few of them for me to fully focus on. One of my favorites for Miss Universe is Miss France 2016, Iris Mittenaere.

Though only 23 years old, Mittenaere has accomplished quite a bit. According to her Miss Universe bio, she was born in the north of France in Lille. She’s currently pursuing a degree in dental surgery, and if she takes home the crown, Mittenaere would push her platform of advocating to dental and oral hygiene around the world. When she’s not examining teeth, she’s an extreme sports fanatic, she loves traveling, and cooking new French dishes. Miss Universe contestants — they’re just like us! She’s also a volunteer, and she loves to be “fresh, funny, and caring." Sounds to me like Mittenaere is the fun, modern woman that the Miss Universe competition loves to crown a winner. I would give her the crown, wouldn’t you? Will France take home the Miss Universe crown? It’s definitely not going to be an easy decision for the judges.

According to the Spokane Daily Chronicle, there’s only been one Miss Universe winner from France — and that was in 1953. I’d say it’s high time for France to get that crown back, especially since they haven’t even had a win in the same century. Mittenaere has a shot at the crown, and I hope she grabs it.
