Sad news, brow lovers: Benefit's popular Gimme Brow product is being recalled by the San Francisco-based cosmetics company. This was a voluntary action issued by the brand after they found that recent batches of the product "did not meet [their] stringent quality standards," the company said in a statement released on their website.
For those of you who use Gimme Brow, do not be totally alarmed. A Benefit Cosmetics representative tells Bustle that you are not at risk should you continue to use the product on your brows. However, the product is being recalled because if it comes into contact with your eyes, it could lead to eye irritation. For this reason, they recommend that customers stop using the product. Benefit Cosmetics also tells Bustle that no customers have filed any complaints about Gimme Brow or experienced any harm using the product. This recall is strictly a voluntary measure that they decided to issue on their own.
If you have any Gimme Brow product in any of the sizes, whether it was part of a kit or purchased separately, you are entitled to a full refund. Benefit Cosmetics asks that you return the product to your original place of purchase. If you have any additional questions or concerns, you may reach them by email at GimmeBrowInfo@benefitcosmetics.com or by phone at +1-800-252-9218 (in the U.S. or Canada) and +1-317-449-2302 (US Toll number for international calls).
Benefit Cosmetics tells Bustle that they will pull all Gimme Brow products from the shelves (both physical and digital) immediately and that they do not plan on reformulating the product.
If you're saddened by the unexpected departure of the cult-favorite Gimme Brow, there are a number of brow products on the market that will deliver the same effortless, full brow look Gimme Brow once did.
Here are five brow products to consider using if you were a Gimme Brow devotee.
Boy Brow is similar to Gimme Brow (and arguably just as beloved), but is less of a gel and more of a creamy wax formula. It thickens, fills, and shapes without flaking or stiffening your brows. It comes in four shades — black, brown, blond, and clear.
Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara
Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara, $3, Target
Talk about an affordable dupe! This product is less than $3 and promises to create fuller, more defined brows with its tinted gel formula. It comes in two shades — Blondy Brows and Browny Brows.
Benefit Cosmetics Foolproof Brow Powder
It doesn't get any easier than this Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder. It even comes in the shape of a brow so you know exactly where to apply each shade for a natural looking, full brow. It comes in three shades — Light, Medium, and Deep.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade
Anastasia Beverly Hills' award-winning Dipbrow Pomade is a waterproof, buildable formula that will not budge once you put it on. It can definitely give your brows a much fuller look than the Gimme Brow, but once you learn how to use it, you can create the exact look you're trying to achieve.
NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP Tinted Brow Mascara
This brow mascara comes highly recommended from Ulta reviewers, many of whom cite that it's easy to apply, long-lasting, and blends well for a natural-looking brow. It comes in five shades: blonde, chocolate, brunette, espresso, and black.
