It's no secret that Million Dollar Listing deals with — well — millions of dollars of real estate each season. On Million Dollar Listing San Francisco , the real estate market's recent boom in prices has created a very interesting dynamic for the show, viewers, and San Franciscans. Andrew Greenwell, Million Dollar Listing San Francisco star, says that the fascination with San Francisco is nothing new, but the show is picking up at an interesting time for the city. "The market here has been so crazy the last few years, it's just the right time to have this kind of show," Greenwell tells Bustle.
"There's a revolution in the city of this old generation of San Franciscans who are not wanting to change," Greenwell explains, "and a new generation of tech people coming in. Whether you like it or not, it's happening." Greenwell explains it as the "800 pound gorilla in the room," and says that the stars have received backlash. "Not everyone in San Francisco is loving the show."
The city's gentrification is partly to blame for the skyrocketing prices of real estate in San Francisco. But, three things you can't blame the prices on are Andrew Greenwell, Roh Habibi, Justin Fichelson. "I think it was a really easy escape of it for people to blame the three of us for causing gentrification of the city," Greenwell says. He then explains that the three of them merely facilitate transactions, and that they don't own the market in the city.
Greenwell sarcastically adds, "I'm solely responsible for the gentrification."
Meanwhile, the show has also brought new business to Greenwell. "We've gotten a lot of calls about deals that weren't selling with other brokers," Greenwell says. "They maybe could use a creative marketing strategy or some different style stuff."
As for starring on the show, Greenwell says it was a "hard thing" deciding if he should bring his successful real estate career to TV. "At the end of the day, it's one of those opportunities where you can't say no," he says. And, with all the drama and fun he brings to the screen, I'm glad he jumped at the chance.
