You Now Have Another Chance to See 'The Butler'

If you missed out on seeing this excellent film the first time, good news: You have another chance now. So, you know, DON'T BLOW IT. According to Variety, about three months after its first (very successful) run at the box office, Lee Daniels' The Butler is headed back to theaters in anticipation of awards season.

Though the film has been shuffled out of most major cinemas, it was actually still playing at about 71 locations over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, which puts it in its 16th week at the box office. Starting this Friday, Dec. 6, it'll expand from those 71 theaters to about 1,007 theaters across the country.

During its first run in cinemas this past August, the film stayed at the top of the box office for a few weeks after it was released, and has managed to pull in a total domestic gross of $115 million so far. With this rerelease, studio The Weinstein Company hopes to ensure its consideration during the upcoming awards season, and give audiences another change to see the film if they missed it the first time.

"We are excited to be bringing it back to theaters just as the holiday season begins, so that audiences who didn’t catch it the first time around have another opportunity at catching it on the big screen," a spokesperson at TWC said in a statement.

Lee Daniels' The Butler stars Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, and Terrence Howard.
