Kate Mara Slays In Giambattista Valli Couture

by Rosie Narasaki

How killer has Kate Mara's style been lately? She's always brought her A game to the red carpet (especially that one time she rather adorably attended the Golden Globes with House of Cards cast mate Kevin Spacey), but she's definitely kicking things up a notch to celebrate her first major franchise role as Sue Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. I mean, first off, there's the absolutely killer Audrey Heburn-esque pixie cut — and then there's the fact that she's going around the world wearing everything from drop dead gorgeous Valentino leather LBDs to cherry red Christian Dior vest dresses. That said, out of everything she's worn over the past week or so, my favorite has to be the ultra-mod daisy-covered Giambattista Valli Couture frock she wore on Live! With Kelly and Michael.

It was kooky, sure, but that's all part of its intrinsic charms, because while Giambattista Valli can do straight-up red carpet glam like nobody's business, it's his crazy-pants numbers that really sing: Think Lena Dunham at the 2014 Emmys, or Lupita Nyongo's ultra-floral number from the 2015 — and last, but certainly not least, Rihanna's gloriously cupcake-esque ball gown from this year's Grammys. Valli's latest runway show was filled with eccentric such showstoppers, and Ms. Mara is among the first to wear one of the Fall 2016 Couture dresses — let's take a look:

Pretty darn fabulous, right? Everyone should take a leaf from Mara's book, because the rest of that Fall 2016 Couture collection needs to make its way down the red carpet, stat. With that in mind, here are 12 must-haves from the line.

1. This Insane, Orange Gown

If Lena Dunham ever feels like out-massing her layer cake-esque Emmys gown, she might want to take this neon orange number out for a spin.

2. This Beaded Frock

So, so pretty (and those earrings are crazy in the best way possible).

3. This Flower-Encrusted Number

Diane Kruger, maybe?

4. This Feathered Ball Gown

Quite possibly one of the most fabulous things I've ever seen.

5. This Tulle-Skirted Confection

Talk about modernized Audrey Hepburn...

6. This Beaded Jumpsuit

WHAT.

7. This Floral Orange Explosion

If that massive, ruffle-skirted number was like the Pokémon evolution of Dunham's Emmy dress, then this is the Charizard to the Charmander of the gown Lupita Nyong'o wore presenting at the Golden Globes.

8. This Feathered Mini

More embellished balletic madness (and again, I mean that in the best way possible).

9. This Mixed Print Mini

So many shades of win in this one.

10. This Skirt/Jumpsuit Amalgamation

I'm not 100% sure what this is, but it doesn't mean I love it any less.

11. This Draped Coral Gown

Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief, anyone?

12. This Black and White Floral Dress

Wow. Coolest dress ever, or coolest dress ever?

Which one's your favorite? Are there any Giambattista Valli gowns you're dying to see come awards season?
