Watch Frank Gifford's Final TV Appearances

The world lost a great talent on Sunday, Aug. 9, as it has been reported that football legend Frank Gifford has passed away. He was 84. According to a report from Today, the husband of acclaimed television host, Kathie Lee Gifford, died in his Connecticut home from "natural causes." Gifford's esteemed career spanned over half a century. He was a key player in leading the New York Giants to the Super Bowl in 1956 during his time on the team, and entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977 due to his arduous work and athletic acumen. He later went on to find acclaim as an NFL commentator on ABC's Monday Night Football.

Despite his success, Gifford's fame never seemed to cause a waver in his unremitting kindness and humility. During interviews and video appearances with wife Kathie Lee, Gifford displayed humor and modesty that was truly admirable given the various accolades he received throughout his career. Gifford's family released a statement to NBC News in regard to his passing.

“It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and friend, Frank Gifford. Frank died suddenly this beautiful Sunday morning of natural causes at his Connecticut home. We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live, and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being. We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time and we thank you for your prayers.”

During the final years of his life, Gifford's sentimentality and relationship with his family was documented in promotional appearances and interviews. He also paid tribute to late Giants player Kyle Rote with a touching eulogy in 2002.
