How Much Matt Damon Can One Trailer Handle?

For some cinephiles, the fall months are the time to leave the dreaded summer blockbuster season behind and embrace the newest crop of indie darlings and potential Academy Award nominees. For others, fall is the time to... keep watching the rest of the blockbusters that didn't come out during the summer — and Fall 2015 looks like it's shaping up to be a doozy in that regard, between entries in popular YA franchises (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2; Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials), new Pixar movies (The Good Dinosaur), James Bond adventures (Spectre), possibly the most highly-anticipated sequel of all time (Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens), and director Ridley Scott's return to outer space in The Martian , starring Matt Damon.

The Martian, based on the 2011 best-selling novel by Andy Weir, tells the story of astronaut Mark Watney, who is stranded on the red planet after his crew presumes him dead during a catastrophic storm and leaves him behind. Wounded but still alive, Watney must pool his resources — and his smarts — to survive until the next manned Mars mission can arrive and rescue him. The problem? The next mission isn't for another four years, and he only has enough food to last some 50-odd days.

Check out the recently-released trailer for The Martian and behold the 9 most glorious, Matt Damon-iest moments:

1. When Matt Damon's Sultry Voice Starts Narrating

The very first thing we hear as the trailer begins are the dulcet tones of Matt Damon's voice, played over a haunting image of the red planet. "I guarantee you that at some point, everything's gonna go south on you," he begins. Uh oh, Matt Damon.

2. When Matt Damon Gets Blown Away

Literally. During a brutal storm, Matt Damon gets swept away from the rest of his crew. They leave him behind because they apparently don't realize he's Matt Freakin' Damonand is therefore the star of this movie and so is obviously still very much alive.

3. When Matt Damon Is Still Alive

Told you.

4. When Matt Damon Has A Sense Of Humor About His Predicament

(Also, when he still looks damn good while probably doomed to die alone on an alien planet.)

5. When Matt Damon Phones Home

We're receiving you, Matt Damon. Loud and clear.

6. When Matt Damon Says He's Going To "Science The Sh*t Out Of This"

Those of you who have read the book know he means that literally. (Yes, that's a poop reference.)

7. When Matt Damon Is The Greatest Botanist On The Entire Planet

Also the worst, if we're getting technical.

8. When Matt Damon Gets Emotional

When Matt Damon cries, we all cry.

9. Oh Yeah, And When Matt Damon Shares The Screen With An Amazing Cast

Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Peña (Ant-Man), Mara (House Of Cards), and Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) play Matt Damon's fellow crew members, while Wiig (Bridesmaids), Daniels (The Newsroom), Bean (Game Of Thrones), Glover (Community), and Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) play NASA employees fighting to get him home alive. Talk about an all-star ensemble.
