Will Miley’s New Album Be Available On Spotify?

by Emily Lackey

I don’t know about your Sunday night, but mine was pretty run-of-the-mill until about 11 o’clock at night when Miley Cyrus released a surprise album that she announced was available to stream for free online right now. Before that, it was just me on the couch, wine glass in hand, watching the VMAs and praying for a Zayn Malik appearance. But then Cyrus came out with her Drag Race famous crew and performed a new song that none of us had ever heard. Something about smoking pot, loving peace, and not being a hippie. “What is this?” was the common text being sent frantically around by my friends. Not so much about the performance, which was pretty crazy on its own, but about the song itself. So, when Cyrus announced that the album that it came from was online, I scrambled to the website to listen. And then to Spotify and iTunes to download it like a good little fan. Except, the album isn’t available on either of those. So will Cyrus' new album eventually be available on Spotify?

The jury is majorly out on what the next step is for this mysterious album. The whole thing was such a surprise that it’s no wonder that so many people are still in the dark about what is going to happen with it in the future. Will it be available to buy in stores? To buy on iTunes? To add to my favorite Spotify playlists?

The answer to those questions for the time being is a big maybe. But given the fact that Cyrus has so many other albums and songs on Spotify, I wouldn’t be surprised if the album eventually makes its way there. If she’s already willing to give away the music for free, I can’t imagine that she’d have a problem will having it on the streaming service Spotify.

So when will it be available? The word on the street (aka, the word from an anonymous Billboard source) is that Cyrus released the album for free because it is such a different sound for her and so unlike what fans are used to. Awww. Isn’t that nice of her?

The album, which is a collaboration with The Flaming Lips, is such a unique turn from the Cyrus I know and love, so I can understand her wanting to give it to the fans for free for a bit before she makes it available for purchase. Really, I appreciate her wanting to give me a little taste of it before I commit to buying. It’s the thoughtful thing to do. But I've had that taste and now I need the album to come to Spotify and iTunes so I can make it my very own, as soon as possible, please and thank you.
