Latest MH370 Wing Part News Offers Closure

After airplane debris was found that was thought to be from a flight that went missing more than a year ago, French prosecutors have said they are certain the flaperon found on Reunion Island is from MH370, Reuters reports. The debris was discovered in late July, and while all signs pointed to it being from the missing Malaysian plane (and the Malaysian prime minister had already confirmed it), many people still had doubts about the origin of the wing part, as French officials hadn't expressed 100 percent certainty yet.

But if there were any doubts before, they should be quashed at this point. With both Malaysia and France now in agreement that the flaperon is from MH370, the families of the 239 victims can have some semblance of closure. The French prosecutor said Thursday that a technician was able to officially identify a number on the wing part and match it with the MH370 serial number. The prosecutor said in a statement:

It is therefore possible to confirm with certainty that the flaperon found on Reunion island on July 29, 2015 corresponds to the one from flight MH370.

Unfortunately, there's still no news onto what caused the plane to go missing and then be found thousands of miles away on the French-governed island of Reunion. MH370 went missing in March 2014 when the plane dropped off air traffic radar after leaving Kuala Lumpur on its way to Beijing.
