When The iPad Pro Might Just Come Out

During its event Wednesday, Apple's Phil Schiller revealed details about its iPad Pro — basically an updated, much larger version of the iPad. An Apple Pencil and special keyboard have also been developed to be used alongside the Pro. The update hopes to cater to business professionals who might want something larger than a tablet, but with more versatility and an ease of handling that doesn't come with a laptop. So, when will the iPad Pro come out? "The biggest news in iPad since the iPad," according to Schiller, will be out in November, according to Apple blog 9to5 Mac, but will be available for preorder in October, the blog alleges. (Update: Apple announced that the iPad Pro would be available "starting in November.")

What techies are calling the new "monster" iPad will feature a 12.9-inch display, the biggest ever built in an iPad device, Schiller said. It also has 5.6 million pixels, and a 2732 x 2048 resolution. "With a bigger-screen iPad, your TV shows and movies are more cinematic. The games we play are more immersive and powerful," Schiller explained. "The new multitasking features in iOS9 ... were designed with this iPad Pro in mind."

The A9X chip is a 64-bit chip that is "so fast," Schiller told audiences at the event. It's 1.8 times faster than the chip it replaces — "desktop performance," in Schiller's words. It's faster than 80 percent of the portable PCs on the market in the last few months, he added. Another feature is the four-speaker audio system, which plays differently depending on how you're holding the iPad Pro. "It's packed into a device that's incredibly thin and light," Schiller said.

A "smart keyboard," separate from the iPad itself, has been developed especially for this model, as well as an Apple Pencil stylus.
