Do The Emmy Awards Have A Dress Code?

The ladies and gentlemen of the small screen certainly have a reputation for cleaning up nicely, but as I prepare my predictions for best dressed at the 2015 Emmy Awards, I have to wonder whether those fierce formal gowns and sharply tailored tuxes will be ensembles of pure choice or whether there is a dress code for the Emmy Awards. I mean, let's be honest: One of the best, most highly anticipated parts of any fancy Hollywood shindig is seeing what our favorite celebrities will be wearing when they step onto that famed red carpet. With the Emmy's returning on Sept. 20, a fresh crop of drool-worthy designer duds will be sweeping across our television screens and taking over our Instagram feeds before we can even finish predicting which fashion house will be dressing whom. As it turns out, the Television Academy kindly requests the donning of formal wear for its event.

After thorough research, I was able to confirm that the Primetime Emmy Awards is a black tie event, according to Microsoft Theatre, where the show will take place. Even famous thespians have to follow the rules sometimes, which, in this case, means breaking out the bow ties and bedazzled Oscar de la Renta gowns to be honored by their peers.

But hey, just because there is a clear cut dress code does not mean the attire is cookie cutter. Our favorite stars know how to work a formal look and make it their own. In honor of the black tie decree and the upcoming red carpet, let's take a look at some of the best dressed attendees from 2014's awards. These fancy frocks give that dress code a dazzling good name.
