The biggest night of the year in television is finally here: Sept. 20 marks the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards, and to say this day has been highly anticipated would be a major understatement. Considering this year promises everything from an excellent show of diversity amongst Emmy nominees to Andy Samberg as the night's host, I've been counting down the days to Sunday night since the show's airdate was announced ages ago. Of course, the biggest thing to look forward to is finding out who gets to take home the coveting trophies for their excellent work in Hollywood this past year — since it's, you know, the whole point of the show. As aforementioned, 2015's Emmy nominees are a diverse crowd: particularly in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy category. With nominees including Andre Braugher for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Adam Driver for Girls, Ty Burrell for Modern Family, Keegan-Michael Key for Key & Peele, Tituss Burgess for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Tony Hale for Veep, the race was a close one. So, who won? Ultimately, it was Tony Hale to take home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
As Hale headed over to the stage (and the announcer shared with the audience, "[Hale] was so excited when he found out about his nomination... he forgot to take his daughter to camp,") and began his speech, I was excited to hear what he was going to say. Though celebrity award acceptance speeches can be very hit or miss, Hale is such a comedy force that I knew it was going to be great — and trust me, it was not disappointing. Case-in-point: Hale quickly thanked a ton of influences in his career, as well as his co-stars on Veep, before quickly interjecting, "I just had a fear my zipper's down." It was such a natural and real moment, it was impossible not to love it.
This was Hale's second Emmy win for his role on Veep.
