Meat-Eater Dax Shepard Named PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian

by Rachel Simon

Parenthood star Dax Shepard is having a pretty good week. Just days ago, the actor tweeted his engagement to longtime girlfriend Kristen Bell, and yesterday, he was named one-half of PETA's "Sexiest Vegetarian Couple." There's only one problem: Shepard isn't a vegetarian.

"I'm really flattered to be named 'Sexiest Vegetarian' with @IMKristenBell," he tweeted Thursday afternoon. "But sadly I can't accept in good conscience because I eat chicken."

He went on to clarify: "I was vegan for a year, but that ended 6 months ago. I aspire to be more like @IMKristenBell, but I'm not there yet."

Oops. PETA quickly changed its honors, making Bell, who IS a vegetarian, the sole winner of the award. In a statement to E!, the organization said that they are "delighted to recognize Kristen Bell as our Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity. She sets a wonderful example of kindness to animals and healthy living to her countless fans, including Dax! We love Dax, and we're glad to read that he's aspiring to be more like Kristen."

Bell, who has been a vegetarian since she was a teenager, beat out other non-meat-eating celebrities such as Anne Hathaway, Diane Keaton, Joaquin Phoenix and Peter Dinklage for the title. She hasn't yet tweeted her reaction to the award, but judging from the couple's propensity to use Twitter for big news, it's probably only a matter of time.
