Katie Holmes Redefines Commuter Style In Pink Gown

Most commuters want to be comfortable and stylish while they go from A to B. However, I can't co-sign that '90s trend of wearing sneakers with business attire, even if only worn during the travel time and swapped out for heels once at the office. I also cannot wrap my head around the fact that Katie Holmes wore a fancy pink dress on a commuter train.

The NYC-dwelling actress, who caught a little flack when she paired heels with athletic leggings recently, shared an Instagram photo of herself wearing a full, hot pink dress and heels. She was boarding a New Jersey Transit vehicle at Penn Station; any self-respecting Jersey-to-NYC commuter will recognize the stripes.

I am not sure what the actress and former Mrs. Tom Cruise was doing. As Racked NY pointed out, Holmes was very likely filming some sort of campaign for one of the brands that she endorses.

Whatever the case, Holmes certainly transformed something mundane and frustrating into something utterly fabulous via fashion!

Commuting can suck, as you have to deal with delays, foot traffic, other commuters, broken air conditioning, crowded conditions, and more. So that last thing you want to do is wear a couture gown while going to and fro.

But then again, if Holmes was indeed shooting some sort of ad or spot for a brand, real life rules don't apply.

It's almost one of those "She's just like the rest of us" moments, but only because it'd mean that Katie Holmes commutes. The "rest of us" don't wear strapless gowns with a full skirt on the train ride home after a 9 to 5.

Holmes reps Olay and Alterna Hair Care, so perhaps something is cooking there?

Maybe Holmes can yank any of her recent fabulous dresses from her closet while taking the subway?

Holmes can often be counted on for red carpet and fancy gown wins! This slinky, satin-y, and olive green column gown hugged her frame and might be easier to board trains in, since the straight shape means it won't encroach on other riders and their personal space.

Her midnight blue, Zac Posen gown and Anna Wintour-ian bob at the 2015 Met Gala were also unforgettable. But the flared train would be a nightmare when traveling.

This hot pink, glamsual dress is totally profesh. She could wear this on a train any day and not cause a stir!

If she wore this killer street style ensemble on a train, she'd fit in with so many of the peeps who travel in from Brooklyn.

She'd look the part of a girl boss that isn't above mass transit commuting if she donned this hat 'n' cape combo while taking the L.

This eggplant, strapless gown was a simple stunner... but so not appropriate for public transportation.

What we've learned from this exercise is that Katie Holmes has impeccable street and red carpet style. Some of it works for a train. Some of it doesn't.

I, for one, can't wait to see the end result of her wearing a gown on an NJ Transit train. What's the end game? We'll have to wait and see. But Racked is probably right on in suggesting that it's for one of her beauty endorsement gigs.
