You Can Now Meet Karl Lagerfeld On Kim K's App

by Rosie Narasaki

Looks like Chanel creative director (and infamously eccentric curmudgeon) extraordinaire Karl Lagerfeld will be appearing on Kim Kardashian's game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood — aka Kardashian's namesake app/viral Internet sensation (it boasts over 30 million active users). This is amazing for a whole host of reasons, chief of which is the fact that avatar Karl can now dispense virtual advice on how to start your own fashion line, officially joining Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley on the growing list of fashion superstars to appear on the game.

For their parts, both parties seem enthused about the cameo appearance — Lagerfeld told Vogue , "Kim’s contribution to beauty and fashion — and what made her such an icon — is the fact that you don’t have to be super slim and very tall to be beautiful ... Others tried, but she succeeded in giving other girls like herself confidence. And I admire her for that."

Now, personally, no matter how many times I read that quote, I can't see it as anything else but a backhanded compliment — in other words, classic Karl Lagerfeld. Kardashian was much more effusive about the collaboration for the game and app — saying, "Karl Lagerfeld is such an icon and I’ve been lucky enough to work with him several times over the years."

The new in-game character is the product of some collaboration — Lagerfeld and his team had creative control over his avatar's appearance. According to Vogue, the game features three distinct outfits, "complete with tie pins and fingerless gloves," and the roll-out includes virtual incarnations of Lagerfeld's new line.

I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to meet the guy — between his intensely doted-upon cat (who has an iPad, not to mention her own makeup line), and his signature ponytail, sunglasses, and scowl, he seems like quite the character. I've managed to (mostly) avoid Kim's app up until now, but I might just have to give it a try now: After all, even virtual fashion advice from a Lagerfeld avatar is sure to be indispensable.
