Cate Blanchett Beats Kate, Sandy, & Emma

by Caitlyn Callegari

Sandra Bullock or Kate Winslet? Judi Dench or Cate Blanchett? What about Emma Thompson?! This years 2014 Golden Globes nominees for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama have us feeling some Sophie's Choice-type of emotions. How can you possibly choose between all of these amazingly amazing actresses, Hollywood Foreign Press? As if the competition weren't stiff enough, all of the women nominated are Academy Award winning actresses (yes, ALL of them). So now that you're reasonably conflicted on who you think is most deserving, you can all finally exhale because the coveted Golden Globe was bestowed upon the ever-cool and talented Cate Blanchett.

Cate Blanchett's win isn't so surprising as many had her pinned as the front-runner for her portrayal of Jasmine in the Woody Allen flick, Blue Jasmine. Blanchett has previously won two Golden Globes and has been nominated six other times.

Still, others had guessed Hollywood darling Sandra Bullock as winner for her Castaway-like powerhouse performance in Gravity. This is the third Golden Globe win for Blanchett, she had won previously for her roles in Elizabeth and I'm Not There.

We can't feel too bad for the other nominees in this category, though. We have a feeling that they'll all be doing just fine in their careers, 2014 Golden Globe or not. There's always next year, ladies!

Congratulations to Cate Blanchett and all those nominated!
