Update: Late Wednesday evening, police confirmed 28-year-old Syed Rizwan Farook and 27-year-old Tashfeen Malik were the two suspects killed by police in connection to a mass shooting at Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California. After fleeing the scene of the shooting, Farook and Malik’s SUV was tracked to nearby Redlands, California, where they died in a shootout with police. A third person who fled the site of the police gunfight was detained, though authorities said they did not believe he was directly involved in the shooting that left at least 14 people dead and 17 injured. As of early Thursday morning, officials have not disclosed a motive for the attack. Terrorism has not been ruled out.

Earlier: Late Wednesday morning, a shooting in San Bernardino, California left at least 14 people killed, according to the police department as of Wednesday afternoon. Tweets from the San Bernardino scene, including those of local crime and safety reporters Beatriz Valenzuela and Doug Saunders, talked of SWAT teams, helicopters overhead, and police evacuating the Inland Regional Center, a center for people with developmental disabilities where news outlets are reporting the shooting took place. As of 12:00 p.m. PT, the scene was still regarded as active.

The sheriff's department of San Bernardino, which is a city of 200,000 people located east of Los Angeles, tweeted that there are between one and three possible shooters. An eyewitness told ABC7 that there were rifles used at the scene. The city's police lieutenant initially gave local news station KTLA5 the figure of 20 victims, and later confirmed that there were multiple victims in the shooting.

At 12:39 p.m. PST, the sheriff's department tweeted that the scene was still active. The department urged people to avoid the area and stated that a "hard closure" of all traffic was in effect at Orange Show Road/Waterman Avenue and Park Center Circle.
