Why Did Kim And Kanye Name Their Baby Saint?

by Mary Grace Garis

Brace yourself, because the second coming is here. On December 5 it was announced that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had their second child, a then untitled son, and the public was enraptured by what name could possibly top North West. Well, holy smokes, they've done it: it's been declared that Kim and Kanye's baby is named Saint West. Which is almost hilariously perfect, but now the big question on everyone's minds is, well, why did Kimye name their baby Saint?

To date, we can only speculate, but I get the sneaking suspicion that Kanye fought for this one. I mean, no one can deny that the psuedo-religiousness of "Saint" it pairs well with Kanye's "Yeezus" moniker. Likewise, even if it wasn't done with that consistency in mind (which I doubt), it would be very in line with Kanye's God complex. Bless.

Another theory? Well, the Kardashian Klan has always been unconventional (unKonventional?) with their names. The most recent addition to the list being Kourtney's son Reign Aston Disick in late 2014, and that is a bold choice for the Lord and Lady Disick. Who else would find a name to top the royal implications of Reign? Um, the in-laws, obviously. Divinity tops royalty any day of the week.

But maybe that's just the sass speaking. Perhaps Kim and Kanye were feeling super spiritual after this difficult pregnancy: the couple earlier stated that their baby was breech, and Kim recently underwent a (successful) procedure to get him facing downward. It's plausible that the pair wanted to name their baby Saint because they were feeling grateful, not because of any egotistical reasons. Hey, idk, my mom named me after the Virgin Mary (lol) after she prayed to her that I would end up healthy. It happens.

All we know know is that it wasn't a pre-meditated decision, at least to an extent. As late as November, Kim had told E! that the couple didn't have any names yet. "We just started talking about it and that was the last thing for us last time," she said. "So I feel confident obviously that we'll figure it out." And figure it out they did.

Whatever the case may be, I'm sure we'll get a name soon enough. Silly as it may sound, I'm kinda into the name "Saint," and no one can deny it's in line with the Kardashian-West brand. So I guess congratulations are in order for Kim and Kanye. May your baby be a blessed addition to this forever-expanding and never boring family.
