Lindsey Graham Just Got Everyone's Full Attention

On Monday, following President Obama's Oval Office statement urging Americans to resist discrimination, Donald Trump swiftly defied his message by releasing a proposal to completely ban Muslims from entering the U.S. "until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on." Almost immediately, many other candidates spoke out in disgust over Trump's insanely Islamophobic plan, including fellow Republicans like Jeb Bush, John Kasich, and Lindsey Graham. However, it was the latter who then broke from the pack to really establish himself as not playing around anymore. In an interview with CNN, Lindsey Graham told Donald Trump to go to hell. It's refreshing to see a politician drop the diplomacy to respond to Trump as one should.

Speaking to New Day co-host Alisyn Camerota in his signature Southern twang, Graham talked about being "disgusted" with Trump's increasingly fascist campaign.

I want to talk to the Trump supporters for a minute. I don't know who you are and I don't know why you like this guy. ... He's a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot.

He also addressed the U.S. military's concern with Trump's anti-Muslim rhetoric because the "enemy will use it against us."

He's putting our soldiers and diplomats at risk, and he's empowering the enemy. ... He's undercutting how you win the war.

These are all valid points, but the real clincher was when he said this and proved that perhaps America may have underestimated the South Carolina senator:

You know how to make America great again? Tell Donald Trump to go to hell.

Well said, Senator Graham. Well said. It's nice to see that your political gloves are off. When Trump proposes something this absurd and abhorrent, there's no need to be polite. Plus, it's really delightful to hear such harsh words spoken in your soft voice and Southern accent. But this isn't the first time Graham has sounded off on Trump.

On Monday, Graham took to Twitter to address Trump's proposed ban, tweeting some of the most searing criticisms anyone has leveled at the candidate yet.

Though Graham may not be dominating the polls, he has set himself apart time and again throughout the 2016 election cycle as a truly standout candidate and human. In March, Bloomberg Politics published a video highlighting the senator's comedic chops. When he announced his candidacy in June, he did so with a hilarious — and utterly unexpected — tweet comparing himself to Lindsay Lohan. And throughout his debates, which have all been undercard events thus far, he's been spittin' more one-liners than George Pataki can keep up with.

Now, after putting Trump on blast with some seriously attention-grabbing sass, maybe Graham will see a jolt in his numbers. Maybe he'll be making us laugh from the primetime stage soon.
