Jonathan Saunders Is Shutting Down His Label

by Rosie W.

Bad news ahead: Jonathan Saunders is closing shop, WWD reports. In a statement issued by the company, Saunders' decision to step down as the creative director of the brand is a personal one, reached in conjunction with investor and business partner Eiesha Bharti Pasricha. Before shuttering its doors, the label will honor orders placed for its Spring 2016 collection, which Vogue praised for its use of colors, print and pattern when it premiered in September. For people who love color, this is a major bummer.

Though Saunders will retain his name and intellectual rights to the brand after the shutdown, the designer hasn't elaborated on future plans. In the statement, Sanders said that he and business partner Pasricha reached the decision amicably. "[Pasricha] has not only been a fantastic partner over the last year but an incredible support and we remain close," he stated. "I am very thankful for all of the friends that I have across the industry, and I look forward to working with everyone again soon on future creative projects."

Sanders is currently collaborating with British-based The Rug Company, producing runners, cushions and rugs. The pieces are worth checking out if you want your eyes to cross every time you look at your living room floor.

Saunders' relaxed, ready-to-wear designs have long been a staple for an impressive roster of celebrities and politicians, including Michelle Obama, Madonna, and Kate Middleton. In honor of the line's final months, let's take a look at what these celebrities will miss most in a world without Jonathan Saunders.

Kate Middleton's red coat is iconic. Saunders' pattern making skills are really at work here.

While I think this dress resembles a bathing suit, there's no doubt that it suits Jones' icy complexion.

Green is seriously underrepresented on the red carpet. I vote that Saunders make more green dresses in the future, whatever he ends up doing.

Excepting that big chunky belt, this dress is the perfect combination of ethereal and modern.

Emma Roberts

I'm not loving this color, but the dress is cute. On a side note, I'd forgotten that Roberts used to be a brunette.

Is that a woven leather skirt? I'm in love.

Christina Ricci would wear this exact dress if my fantasy of her reprising her role as Wednesday Addams were to come true.
