Does Khloe's New Show Send The Wrong Message?

by Emily Lackey

When it comes to the Kardashians, I try not to play favorites, but a girl has to be honest: I kinda sorta have always loved one of them the most. Which is why when I heard that Khloe Kardashian has signed on to host her own makeover show, I was totally pumped. If you ask me, that girl deserves a little limelight of her own outside of her family. But when I heard what the show was going to be about — as well as the title, Revenge Body — I got a little worried. A makeover show that takes the broken hearted and changes their appearance under the guise of gaining "revenge" against those who have wronged them is pretty problematic, and honestly, Khloé can do better than this.

As happy as I am for Khloé that she will be hosting two shows now — the late night talk show, Kocktails with Khloé , and this makeover show — I'm pretty worried about the message that it sends. According to The Hollywood Reporter , the show will set up two "heartbroken individuals" with top trainers, stylists, and glam squads, and "each episode will end with a big reveal of their makeovers to the world and the chance to defy those who doubted them."

The show could prove to be more than the released premise (and I certainly hope it does), but for now, that handful of descriptors has me fretting a bit.

Seriously, I love the idea of helping out the broken-hearted (and I love seeing more Khloé on TV), but that premise does leave me a little sad. Call me crazy, but I think the best revenge is moving on, living a happy life, and never looking back — not changing yourself physically in order to make others jealous. Plus, self-improvement should be done for oneself, not to hurt people. Encouraging fans to use their bodies for revenge is pretty harmful; it's not at all empowering and seems to be sending the opposite message of self-care and self-love.

I’m excited to see Kardashian proving that she has the ability to juggle so much, but I do worry what the premise will cost her some fans. I hope I'm proved wrong. Bustle has reached out to both E! Entertainment and Khloé's rep for comment regarding the series, but has not yet heard back.
