8 Makeup Looks for People With Green Eyes

Though there are songs written for brown eyed girls, and baby blues are rare enough to merit a double take, green eyes are equally enthralling and incredibly easy to play up with the right makeup. And with St. Patrick's Day approaching, you can use them as your best accessory (way better than a green shirt, no?). We looked to some of our favorite celebrities for eight makeup looks that will give you the visage of a green-eyed goddess.

Silver Eyes

If subtle and spellbinding is what you aim for when putting on your makeup, follow Lily Collins’ example and add a bit of shimmer to your eyes. A luminous silver shade will draw attention to your green eyes without overshadowing them. The finishing touch? A swipe of lengthening mascara at the outer corners.

Understated Grey Smokey Eye

When you’re blessed with green eyes, the last thing you want to do is bury them under layers of heavy, dark eyeshadow. Instead, try a half-smoky eye like Julianne Moore. To replicate her understated look, use a deep grey pencil liner on her upper lid, and smudge slightly for a more lived-in appearance. A bit of highlighter on the brow bone finishes the look.

Purple Contours

While no one should stick to using complementary colors when attempting elaborate eye makeup, it can be fun to pick a shade that sets off your eye color exactly. Shades of purple are nearly opposite the color wheel from green, so try sweeping a shimmering orchid shade across your eyes. For those who are more adventurous, contouring with a slightly deeper plum shade increases the impact of the look as shown by Mila Kunis.

Under-Eye Liner

Lining the lower waterline of the eye is often dismissed as an unnecessary step that makes your eyes look smaller, more tired, or simply irritated if your hand slips during the application. However, using a dark shade in your water line and on the lashline of your upper lid draws focus and frames green eyes beautifully. Kristin Kreuk aces the look by keeping the rest of her makeup rosy and understated.

Bold, Defined Brows

Full, defined eyebrows draw attention to the upper half of your face and more specifically, to your eyes. If your eyebrows are on the sparse side, use a pencil to fill them in and add a subtle arch at the middle. Hayden Panettiere rocks the bold eyebrow look with subtle makeup on the rest of her face.

Red Lips

Red is another complementary shade for green, so why not use a red lipstick to call attention to your favorite feature? Update your typical scarlet shade with a trendy matte version with orange undertones like Rihanna. The result is edgier than a traditional, glossy red lip, but equally arresting.

Highlighted Inner Corners

While a full-on smoky eye complete with black eyeshadow and dark liner is certainly a way to make your eyes pop, a subtler way to make your green eyes shine is by highlighting the inner corner of your eye. Using a slightly sparkly shade at the inner corner draws focus to your eyes, especially when the rest of your makeup is kept to a minimum like Scarlett Johansson’s.

Rosy Eyes

If you’re feeling especially daring with your makeup, try using a rosy shade for your lips and eyes. While it can be a tricky trend to master, the key to rocking it is choosing a shade that’s far enough from a natural flush that your eyes don’t look red-rimmed, but muted enough that it doesn’t appear that your eyeshadow is stuck in the ’80s. Kristen Stewart pulled off the trend by using a shimmery shade of pink with undertones of plum, and completed the look with slightly rosy cheeks and glossy red lips.
