Mary Kate & Ashley's Best '90s Accessories

by Ashley Berg

My childhood consisted of watching a lot of Lizzie McGuire, listening to Hanson, and trying to be exactly like the Olsen twins. I was seriously obsessed. My best friend and I would act out their roles in movies and TV shows (I was always Ashley) and try our best to copy their outfits. Their impeccable style started back when denim overalls and hair scrunchies were the hot new looks — aka, the '90s. Needless to say, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen had fabulous '90s accessories as well. These two seriously know how to rock some butterfly clips and tinted sunglasses!

To this day, the twins have an iconic look that is nearly impossible to replicate. Maybe they learned some style tips while shooting Passport to Paris? The Olsens have rocked the fashion world since before they could even dress themselves. There's no wonder I'm still trying to copy their outfits today.

The Olsen's jump started their acting careers as Michelle Tanner on a little TV show called Full House — you know, the one that's getting a reboot on Netflix? Things took off from there and all of a sudden there were TV shows, movies, fashion lines and books all dedicated to the twins. Whether you were more into Switching Goals or "Gimme Pizza," there's no denying you weren't just as obsessed with the two sisters as I was growing up. And what better way to give thanks to the two girls who made up your childhood than by taking a look at all of their amazing accessory choices of the past! Shall we?

1. Scrunchies

I'm not surprised the scrunchie trend is coming back into style, because these two rocked them so hard in the '90s.

2. Butterfly Clips

Although I'm not a fan of butterfly clips today, the twins actually pulled them off way back when.

3. Tiny Sunglasses

Yes, I did buy a pair of tiny, tinted sunglasses from their fashion line. No, I would not wear them now.

4. Bandanas

Not going to lie — sporty Mary-Kate looks pretty fab in this bandana.

5. Flower Crowns

This 1994 version of the flower crown is a little less hippie-esque than the one popular today.

6. Baseball Cap

With a simple white tee and some basic black pants, Michelle from Full House looks extra cool.

7. Hair Bows

These white hair bows put the extra-sweet cherry on top of an already super girly outfit.

8. Star Sunglasses

When you become a star your whole life reflects that — including your accessories.

9. Headbands

The Tanner sisters share a love of headbands, but Michelle's is extra adorable with an added bow.

10. Handkerchief Hair Tie

Part scrunchie, part handkerchief. I'm not mad at it.
