50 Cent Charged with Domestic Abuse Against Ex

by Rachel Simon

50 Cent has been charged with domestic abuse against his ex-girlfriend, according to Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer. The rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, allegedly attacked the woman and destroyed $7,100 of her property during an incident at her California condo on June 23.

Jackson received one misdemeanor count of domestic violence and four misdemeanor counts of vandalism. Police responding to a call on the night of the altercation observed broken furniture and a kicked-in bedroom door, among other damage. Jackson apparently fled the scene before officers arrived.

"Regardless of perceived celebrity or notoriety, domestic violence is a serious crime and alleged perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law by this office," Feuer said in a statement to People. "We will continue to look out for the safety of all victims of domestic violence and seek justice for the alleged crimes."

Jackson had a three-year relationship and a child with the victim. If convicted, he could face up to five years in jail and $46,000 in fines.
