Melissa McCarthy Totally Nails Jungle Print

by Eliza Florendo

A little fun fact: Melissa McCarthy is actually a fashion designer. Which makes sense, as Melissa McCarthy at the 2016 Critics Choice Awards totally nails jungle print, winning her the medal for best pattern of the night. While there are a few patterns showing up on the blue carpet, McCarthy's happens to be my favorite because of how utterly refreshing it is.

For a night of fashion that's mostly focused on solid gowns (there are so many black and white gowns out there!), it was so surprising to see McCarthy rock a green jungle print dress. Another fun fact: McCarthy actually studied textiles at Southern Illinois University. After moving to New York, she worked with Sunrise Brands to create her first collection, Melissa McCarthy Seven7, aimed for plus-size women.

Tonight, McCarthy's long-sleeved dress added a fun, playful look to an otherwise minimalist evening. Totally love the mix of greens and whites on the dress, and a central sheer panel ran just below her knees, adding yet another killer detail. I absolutely loved the high waist, which was super flattering with the almost bell-like sleeves. McCarthy paired her dress with a black bejeweled clutch. Her gorgeous deep red hair was kept down with loose waves, and she went with a smoky eye and shiny lip. Overall? 10/10.

Tonight, McCarthy is nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role in Spy. With a camo print like that, she definitely makes the most excellent spy, able to hide in her surroundings. Good luck tonight, Melissa! I'm rooting (get it?) for you!
