Sarah Paulson Shines At Critics Choice Awards

The fashion choices at this year's Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles were overwhelmingly safe, with lots of neutral colors and elegant cuts, but there was one actress who shone bright on the somewhat unconventional blue carpet. Sarah Paulson at the 2016 Critics Choice Awards definitely took a risk with her silver sequined dress, and it paid off.

It was hard not to ignore Paulson when she stepped onto the blue carpet since her dress shone like a disco ball. The actress, who appears in American Horror Story and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie Made for Television for her work on the TV show, doubled down on the glitter, pairing her already incredibly sparkly dress with an equally shiny clutch and silver satin pumps with a pointed toe. She, wisely, kept the jewelry at a minimum, except for a pair of diamond studs, which were balanced with the over-the-top dress. Her makeup was also fairly simple, just a neutral lip with a simple smokey eye.

The cut of the dress, at first glance, is also a fairly simple A-line cocktail dress, but the high satin collar around the neck and the detailing on the sleeves create some textural interest.

But once she turned around, it was clear that that somewhat modest cut in the front was just, well, a front. Paulson showed some skin in the back, even giving a peek of the star tattoos on her neck. Rather than hiding the dozen or so bobby pins that were keeping her hairdo in place, she cleverly used them as decoration and further adornment to her already bold look.

And yet somehow, despite totally coating herself in silver and sparkles, Paulson still looked elegant, and her glittering outfit, although a little risky, definitely made her stand out from the crowd.
