Lady Gaga Didn't Disappoint At The Oscars

For about a decade, Lady Gaga has been inspiring masses of outcasts, sartorial rule-breakers, queer kids, and anyone who's ever felt, well, unaccepted. At the 2016 Oscars, Lady Gaga is reminding us precisely why that is. Styled by Brandon Maxwell, Gaga is taking red carpet style to more Old Hollywood levels than we're used to seeing from her. Her dress/jumpsuit hybrid is truly something else — something different. As always, she's proving that there are no rules to fashion, life, or expression.

In the lead-up to Lady Gaga's David Bowie tribute at the 2016 Grammys, she seemed to pop up on my news feeds and social media timelines more than she has in a while. At a time when so many of us were in mourning for Bowie, she managed to make things feel a little less hopeless. Even just by getting a tattoo of Bowie's lightning bolt face, Gaga reassured fans that she's always been about the "little monsters."

At the Academy Awards, she's looking just as kitschy, proudly glam, and fierce as always. The beauty of a Gaga outfit is that it normally follows no template. There's no one style it relies on, or genre it's trying to fit into. Gaga is nothing if not an experimenter, and this ensemble seems to be the latest manifestation of that. It's not as OTT as the looks we often associate with her, but it's no less show-stopping.

Is she a princess, or is she a princess?

The train is 100 percent Gaga Kitsch, and I'm in love.

Gaga went for an understated beauty look, which only made the entire ensemble seem more angelic.

OK. I die. She's brilliance incarnate.
