Over the past few years, there's been a lot of information revealed about what kind of porn women watch, which is amazing. Reports have shown that women watch porn (a lot) and are into all kinds of things (especially the rough stuff). While this data doesn't hold true for every woman who watches porn of course, it does start to open up the conversation around women and porn. And now, a brand new Pornhub Insights report includes more data that shows us exactly what porn women watch and, for the first time, we're not being compared to how men watch porn.
Pornhub has released statistics on what porn women want before but, as they say, the "focus was comparing women to men to see how their porn viewing habits differ." But now, they're focusing on women around the word.
It's really fascinating stuff. Because porn, like sex drives and desires, shouldn't just be looked at in terms of how we compare to men. It's not just that women generally are more into rough sex than men or more likely to be into group porn than men — women have their own habits and proclivities that stand on their own — and not all women want the same thing. It's great that that's finally being recognized.
Plus, with 60 million daily visitors, and 24 percent of porn viewers being women, Pornhub has plenty of data to draw from. Oh, and in case you needed to settle any debate on how long it takes a woman to get off — women log on for an average of 10 minute and 33 second worldwide. (Although there was a lot of variation— women in the Philippines took the longest at 14 minutes and 20 seconds and women in the Ukraine had the whole job done and dusted in six minutes and 45 seconds . Ukrainian women, I salute you.)
So what are we getting off to? Here's what the most popular searches for women worldwide looked like:
As you can tell — women love lesbian porn. Love it. It's no surprise, as we know it's popular for both gay and straight women because, you know, boobs. Magical, magical boobs. Bippity boppity boobs, if you will. But it wasn't the favorite everywhere. "Anal" reigns in Russia, "Ebony" is popular in Africa and Afghanistan, and China and Mongolia prefer "Hentai". "Big Dick", "Arab", "Female Friendly", and "Teen (18+)" also came out on top around the globe.
They didn't just look at what came out on top in each country, though— they also compared more specific areas to others. It's worth checking out all of the breakdowns on their site, but here were my favorites:
1. The Most Viewed Categories By U.S. Women
So although lesbian was the number one search for women in America, Pornhub thought it would be interesting to look at relative categories, aka the ones that are viewed more in each state versus women elsewhere in the USA. And, boy, did it range.
While "Teen", "Female Friendly", and "Ebony" all garnered multiple states, there were some more niche choices. California was the only state going for "Big Tits", but as the home of Lala Land and plastic surgery, maybe that should be expected. "Hentai" took Washington (I really like that this is sounding more and more like primary coverage), while "anal" swept Colorado (see what I did there). Alaska and Hawaii went for "Big Dick" and "Asian," respectively. And bondage and threesome managed to win over a few states each. So even though we have a lot of lesbian porn across the board, tastes still really vary.
2. The Most Viewed Categories By Women In The UK
Of course, I had to take a look about how things panned out where I live, the UK, which also happens to be the second highest traffic source for Pornhub. Again, lesbian porn was the most popular search for women overall, but they took a closer look at how countries within the UK compared. While England goes for "Ebony" and Wales for "Teen," Pornhub found that "women in Scotland like the softer touch of 'female friendly' videos and Northern Ireland likes 'MILF' more than the rest of the UK." Good to know.
3. Women's Most Viewed Relative Categories Worldwide
This one was mind-blowing. It looked at the most viewed relative categories in 20 countries and showed how much more popular it is in that country than in the rest of the world.
For example, Germans are 102 percent more likely to search for "Fetish", while Italians is 110 percent more likely to search for "Mature." The UK, Canada, and Netherlands were all significantly more likely to go for "Bondage," but the biggest leaps were in the Philippines and Argentina. Women in the Philippines were 273 percent more likely to search for "Hentai" than the rest of the world. Over 200 percent more likely.
