This Is The Most Baffling Trump Endorsement so Far

by Emily Shire

While it's fairly shocking when anyone chooses to publicly support The Donald, actress Kirstie Alley's Donald Trump endorsement may be the most jaw-dropping to date. The former star of Cheers, Veronica's Closet, and Fat Actress baffled more than a few fans when she tweeted out her support for the Republican frontrunner on Friday night: "HELLO BOYS! this is my formal endorsement of @realDonaldTrump & I'm a woman! (last I checked)." She also added in her tweet, "And Rudy, U R amazing!" — a nod to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's endorsement of Trump.

Alley is known for being outspoken, though not necessarily on politics; she's long been a vocal proponent of the Church of Scientology. However, her support for Trump is relatively more surprising, especially since she decided to go into full-on "Make America Great Again" mode. Based on her Twitter feed, Alley spent much of the weekend calling out the anti-Trump train and critics who accused her of betraying women and the LGBT community (among others) for supporting Trump. "I am an educated woman who has fought for equal rights for ALL my entire life. Your 'club' doesn't interest me," Alley tweeted in response to one Twitter user's claim that "I am devastated that any woman would support #DonaldTrump." Somewhat curiously, Alley also shared multiple tweets from @Bikers4Trump.

During her stream of tweets, Alley stressed that she had a history of backing both Republican and Democratic presidential candidates, including Barack Obama. She also said she "might return in 8 years ;)" to the Democrats.

Alley also tweeted some support for Hillary Clinton, though she also made a comment that could be interpreted as throwing shade at Bill Clinton and his extramarital affairs. On Sunday, Alley tweeted, "I have always admired HRC's stance on Religious Freedom..she's unshakeable . Bill was the same way. Fearless xxoo." Just hours later, she added that there are "many forms of being misogynist ..one of those would be cheating on your spouse chronically putting her life & happiness at risk. Familiar?" While she didn't specifically name the Clintons, some on Twitter read it as a jab at them and called Alley out for it.

Trump has picked up a motley crew of celebrity endorsements, including Hulk Hogan and Wayne Newton, but Alley's tweets of support still may be the most perplexing — especially to her fans.
